Medicine in Ancient Egypt


The Edwin Smith Papyrus describes ancient Egyptian medicine. Ancient Egyptian medicine was highly regarded by Homer, Herodotus and Pliny the Elder.
Rulers of other empires would ask the Egyptian pharaoh to send them a physician to treat their loved ones.
Egyptian physicians were knowledgeable about the pulse and the relationship between the pulse and the heart.
Surgery was used to treat physical injuries.
Egyptian surgery used knives, hooks, drills, forceps, pincers, scales, spoons and saws.
Egyptian males were routinely given a circumcision.
The extensive use of surgery gave Egyptians a comprehensive knowledge of the body.
