About The Theban Mapping Project

The tombs of 150 of Ramses sons were found by Egyptologist Dr. Kent Weeks.
The tombs are subterranean and are cut into solid bedrock.
They are located in the Valley of the Kings, 500 miles south of Cairo.
The tombs were made for Ramses II who is also known as the Sun Pharaoh.Ramses ruled for many years and died at the age of 90, which was unheard of in ancient Egypt.
The tomb complex was found near some rubble which was left from the excavation of King Tut's tomb by Howard Carter in 1922.
Ramses was known for his military victories and his great building projects.
Abu Simbel was the temple to Ramses which has 4 65-foot statues of Ramses in front of the temple.
The Theban Mapping Project is working on mapping the immense tomb complex.
The tombs of Ramses sons (KV5)is the greatest archaeological discovery since the discovery of King Tut's tomb.
